Reviews from Educators in Franklin County

“The math involved with planning a farm was relevant to current learning.”

“The history of the bay complimented our study of history in grades 7 and 8. We study the late 1700s and 1800s, so hearing about Vermont at the time, in a true place-based format, was engaging and relevant.”

“The farm math was an eye-opener...it was nice for them to have some examples of math in the real world, even if they struggled with it.”

“The stations surrounding local lifestyles and the impact they have on our lake and ecology was very helpful. We speak about the development in agriculture through our Social Studies units and it was great for students to learn about current agricultural methods and learn about the environmental impacts. Discussing developing near the lake and the benefits of that was also complementary to our instruction surrounding energy as well as settlement of Vermont. Many of the stations had a direct link that could be made to curriculum for Social Studies and Science, as well as learning around how to be a good Global Citizen.”

“The watershed simulator seemed to engage the students very well and I feel they learned a lot from it, especially how their everyday actions have an impact on the lake's water quality.”

“They seemed to really enjoy the hands-on Enviroscape Model ...[the instructor] had everyone's attention, and everyone participated. That's a great lesson in my book!”

“The watershed model had a big impact on kids. They were still talking about it at school later. It was an eye opener for them to see how little things add up and can impact our water in big ways."

“There were rave reviews coming back from this trip! Students loved learning about the Bay and sharing experiences they have had that correlated with the learning they did that day.”

“They really enjoyed being out of the classroom and by the lake for the morning.”
